Treatment Programs
BANA offers a variety of treatment programs for individuals and their families that are affected by eating disorders. Our services are inclusive and open to diverse individuals of all ages and genders.
How do I access Services?
Referrals are accepted but not required
Initial consultations can be arranged by contacting one of our therapists at BANA (519-969-2112)
During an initial consultation an appointment will be arranged for an individual assessment. Average wait time is 1-3 weeks for individual assessment meeting
What to expect when I come to BANA?
On your initial visit, you will be asked to engage in a specialized, comprehensive eating disorder assessment and questionnaire package, which will be administered by a highly trained specialist in eating disorders
BANA employs a multi-disciplinary team to assess and treat your eating disorder
An individualized life time treatment plan will be developed with you by BANA's treatment team
BANA's specialized eating disorder professionals are highly trained and skilled in providing treatment to individuals and their families with eating disorders
BANA requires all clients to be medically monitored by a physician
BANA team may assist with a physician referral
BANA offers treatment programmes for children, adolescents and adults
Children/Adolescent Programs
BANA's treatment is largely conducted as Group Therapy, in support of the best practice research.
BANA offers specialized diagnostic assessment.
BANA is the central intake/referral for in patient programs
Psycho-education: New-Directions Jr.(ages 12-14): This group's emphasis is on body images, self-esteem, nutrition and effective communication skills.
The parents of the adolescents enrolled in the Psycho-education groups must attend Concurrent Parent Group to provide caregivers with support, education and skills to help in their child's recovery.
Psycho-education: New Directions Sr. (ages 14-17): This group's emphasis is on body image, self-esteem, nutrition, the physical effects of eating disorders and the development of healthy lifestyles.
The parents of the adolescents enrolled in the Psycho-education groups must attend Concurrent Parent Group to provide caregivers with support, education and skills to help in their child's recovery.
Nutrition Education: BANA provides nutritional education and support through this seven week treatment group. Clients will learn about appropriate nutrition, mechanical eating, food choices and meal planning. This is a therapeutic environment to aid in dietary change.
This group is open to clients of all ages as well as to family members who wish to attend to support.
Adolescent Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (ages 14-17): This group's emphasis is looking at the emotional, thought and behavioural connection to eating disorders and the change processes. This group is only offered to cients that have completed psycho-education group as it is a very challenging group.
Family Therapy: For some families, especially families of children, pre-teens and teens, BANA's treatment team may recommend family therapy. The type of family therapy utilized is determined by each family's individual need and based on Best Practices.
BANA offers this service in co- operation with Hotel Dieu - Grace Hospital and Windsor Regional Hospital
Adult Programs
BANA's treatment is largely conducted in a Group Therapy setting. Best practice research states that Group Therapy is the most effective and appropriate type of therapy for individuals with eating disorders.
Psycho-education (adults): This 10 week group's emphasis is on readiness to change, health consequences of an eating disorder, nutrition, set point, exercise. Body image, coping techniques and relationships are also discussed.
BANA offers specialized diagnostic assessment.
BANA offers referrals to adult inpatient programs.
Nutrition Education: BANA provides nutritional education and support through this seven week treatment group. Clients will learn about appropriate nutrition, mechanical eating, food choices and meal planning. This is a therapeutic environment to aid in dietary change.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) (adults): This 20 week group emphasises analyzing connections between our emotions our thoughts and our behaviours. This group focuses on restructuring dysfunctional thought patterns that affect and/or trigger eating disorder symptoms. This group is only offered to Clients that have completed psycho-education because it is a very challenging group.
Family Programs
BANA knows that Family and Friends of individuals experiencing an eating disorder have a difficult time not only knowing what to do or say, but also experience stress that is associated with this illness and recovery. BANA is open to offering support by telephone or in person to any friend or family member. It is also important to state that the individual's confidentiality will be upheld.
The University of Windsor
With the high incidences of eating disorders on campus, BANA has a satellite office at the University of Windsor Health Services Department. BANA is on campus once a week to conduct eating disorder assessments.

After completion of assessment an individualized treatment plan will be developed.
BANA offers an Campus Therapy group to individuals with eating disorders conducted by trained specialized therapists.
BANA also offers appropriate referrals for clients in their home city.
